American skier Lindsey Kildow is missing the final two events of the world alpine championships in Are, Sweden because of an injured right knee.
Kildow hurt herself during slalom training on Thursday when she straddled a gate and got her ski tip caught. She said she has a partially torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and also suffered a bruised bone.
Kildow, 22, had won two championship silver medals in the super-G and downhill. She missed Friday's slalom and she will miss the team event that concludes the championships on Sunday.
She said she would also miss at least the first World Cup races after the worlds on February 24 and 25 in Sierra Nevada, Spain.
Kildow's injury leaves the U.S. women's contingent depleted for Sunday's team event. Julia Mancuso, the other top woman on the American squad, left on Thursday to return home and rest up for the remainder of the World Cup season.
Kildow was not planning to go home to the United States and will instead head to the U.S. team's in-season base in Kirchberg, Austria, for physical therapy.
Depending on how many races she misses, Kildow could also lose her chance at a few World Cup season titles. Kildow is in second place in the super-G standings, third in the downhill and fifth in the overall standings.
