Simon Ammann Captures World Cup Large Hill Ski Jumping Competition at Holmenkollen

update

Two-time former Olympic ski jump champion Simon Ammann of Switzerland has defied blustery conditions in Norway to capture the World Cup large hill ski jumping competition at Holmenkollen.

Ammann won Sunday's event with a leap of 118.5 meters, worth 121.8 points. The competition was reduced from two jumps to just one because strong winds. Austria's Martin Koch was second with a 115.5 - meter jump, while Matti Hautamaeki of Finland leapt 113 meters for third place.

Anders Jacobsen of Norway finished seventh, but that was good enough for him to pass Adam Malysz of Poland for first place in the overall standings. He has 1,067 points and three events remaining.

Malysz was blown around by the wind on his jump and ended up in 54th place in Sunday's event. He fell to second overall with 1,153 points, while Ammann climbed into third place with 975.
