Despite Hefty Increases, Zimbabwe Civil Servants Seek Salary Review

Zimbabwe’s civil servants are demanding a salary review two months after receiving salary increases of some 300%, citing the corrosive effect of the country's inflation rate of 1,730% - and rising - on their living standards.

Chairwoman Tendayi Chikwore of the Civil Service Staff Association's council for public employee negotiations said the group would be submitting proposals to the government this week, but would not say what size increase will be sought.

But Public Service Association Executive Secretary Emmanuel Tichareva told Patience Rusere of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that salaries must keep pace with costs.
