MLB: Four Straight Home Runs Against Yankees

For just the fifth time in Major League Baseball history, a team has hit four consecutive home runs.

The Boston Red Sox hit four straight homers off Yankee pitcher Chase Wright with two outs in the third inning Sunday, on the way to a 7-6 win over archrival New York. Wright became just the second pitcher ever to give up four homers in a row. More than one pitcher combined to give up four straight home runs the other three times it happened.

The Boston win Sunday earned Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka the victory, and completed a three-game sweep of the visiting Yankees.

Elsewhere in the American League, the Detroit Tigers rallied to beat the Chicago White Sox 6-5 in 12 innings. Marcus Thames tied the game with a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning. The Texas Rangers scored three times in the eighth inning to beat the Oakland Athletics, 4-3. The Los Angeles Angels handed the Seattle Mariners their sixth straight loss in a 6-1 contest. The Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins, 3-1. The Cleveland Indians rallied on Ryan Garko's three-run homer in the ninth inning to beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 6-4. And, the Baltimore Orioles completed a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with a 7-3 win.

In the National League, the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning, but came back to beat the Chicago Cubs, 12-9, in 10 innings. Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer to win the game.

San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds hit his 740th home run, leading the Giants to a 2-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Bonds needs 16 homers to pass Hank Aaron for the all-time home run record.

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds, 9-3. The Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets, 9-6. The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Houston Astros, 4-3. The Florida Marlins crushed the Washington Nationals, 12-6. The Colorado Rockies doubled the San Diego Padres, 4-2. And, the Pittsburgh Pirates snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-5 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
