Bo Diddley's condition has improved, and his doctors say he will likely return to performing.
Four days after suffering a May 13 stroke while performing, the 78-year-old rock pioneer was ambulatory in his intensive care unit at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
His manager, Margo Lewis, said while Diddley's speech remains impaired, he has made significant progress.
"We're going to get a guitar for him and put it in his lap and let him entertain people here," she said. "People think that would be good therapy for him."
Lewis said it is uncertain how long Diddley, who has a history of diabetes and high blood pressure, would remain hospitalized.
A rock icon since the 1950s, Bo Diddley was a 1987 inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He also received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 1998.
