Paris Hilton has left jail - but she's not free.
The 26-year-old celebrity hotel heiress left the Century Regional Detention Facility in Inglewood, California on June 7, after spending three nights in confinement.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said an unidentified medical condition prompted the reassignment.
Paris Hilton must now submit to 40 days' house arrest, during which she will wear an ankle bracelet fitted with a tracking device.
Whitmore said a sheriff's department panel made the decision to free Hilton, although the judge who sentenced her was advised of the action.
Paris Hilton had been sentenced to serve 45 days in jail for violating terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
