Angel Cabrera Wins 107th US Open Golf Championship

Angel Cabrera of Argentina is the winner of the 107th U.S. Open golf championship played at the Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is the first golfer from his country ever to win the U.S. Open.

The 37-year-old Cabrera shot a final round 69 Sunday on the difficult par-70 course. That earned him a one-shot win over both world number one Tiger Woods and number two Jim Furyk of the United States. Cabrera's winning score for the four rounds was 5 over-par 285.

Furyk shot even-par 70 in his final round while Woods had a 2 over-par 72. It's the second straight year Furyk has finished second at the U.S. Open.

The golfer who had a two-shot lead over Woods heading into the final round, Australian Aaron Baddeley, shot a 10 over-par 80 and ended tied for 13th place at 12 over-par 292.

Angel Cabrera is ranked 41st in the world. Only one other Argentine golfer has captured one of the four major tournaments - Roberto De Vicenzo, winner of the British Open in 1967.

In a first at the U.S. Open, a translator was used during the televised trophy presentation. Cabrera's victory earned him $1,260,000.
