MLB: Yankees Beat Devil Rays in Doubleheader

The New York Yankees swept a doubleheader from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in Major League Baseball action Saturday.

Hedeki Matsui hit a home run in both games, which the Yankees won 7-3 and 17-5. Alex Rodriguez hit his 33rd homer for the host Yankees - most in the majors this season.

Relief pitcher Luis Vizcaino was the winner of both games.

In another American League contest, Detroit's Brandon Inge hit a game-ending two run homer in the 10th inning to give the Tigers a 10-8 win over the Kansas City Royals. K.C. tied the game in the ninth inning, scoring two runs off Detroit's closer, Todd Jones. The Tigers have the best record in the majors (58-37).

The Boston Red Sox routed the Chicago White Sox, 11-2. The Toronto Blue Jays edged the Seattle Mariners, 1-0. The Texas Rangers scored five runs in the first inning on the way to defeating the Cleveland Indians, 8-5. And the Oakland Athletics eked out a 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

In the National League, the San Francisco Giants eclipsed the Milwaukee Brewers, 8-0. Los Angeles pitcher Brad Penny improved to 12-1 on the season in the Dodgers' 8-6 win over the New York Mets. The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Chicago Cubs, 3-2. The Washington Nationals shut down the Colorado Rockies, 3-0. The Florida Marlins crushed the Cincinnati Reds, 11-1. The Pittsburgh Pirates stopped a seven-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over the Houston Astros. The Atlanta Braves thumped the St. Louis Cardinals, 14-6. And Philadelphia's Ryan Howard hit two home runs in the Phillies' 12-4 win over the San Diego Padres.
