MLB: Glavine Posts 300th Win

New York Mets pitcher Tom Glavine has won his 300th game - the 23rd pitcher in Major League Baseball history to reach that milestone.

The 41-year-old Glavine left the game against the Cubs in Chicago late Sunday in the seventh inning with a five-run lead, and with the appreciative applause of Cubs fans. The Mets went on to win, 8-3.

Glavine - in his 21st major league season - becomes just the fifth left-handed pitcher to win 300 games.

In another National League contest, Atlanta rookie Yunel Escobar drove in the game-ending run in the 10th inning, lifting the Braves to a 6-5 win over the Colorado Rockies.

The Philadelphia Phillies rallied from a 6-0 deficit to beat the Milwaukee Brewers in 11 innings, 8-6.

The Arizona Diamondbacks completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 3-0 decision. The San Diego Padres edged the San Francisco Giants, 5-4, in another series sweep. The Florida Marlins eked out a 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros. And the Washington Nationals won their sixth straight game, getting by the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, 6-3.

The Chicago White Sox handed the defending American League champion Tigers their fifth straight loss - a 3-1 contest in Detroit. The surging New York Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals, 8-5. Baltimore pitcher Erik Bedard won his eighth straight decision when the Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 11-3. The Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Indians, 1-0. The Toronto Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers, taking Sunday's game, 4-1. The Los Angeles Angels rallied past the Oakland Athletics, 4-3. And the Boston Red Sox defeated the Seattle Mariners, 9-2.
