The International Baseball Federation has canceled this year's world baseball youth championships in Venezuela after the South American country denied visas to members of a team from Taiwan.
Lin Tzung-cheng, the head of the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association in Taiwan says an official notice was sent out on Wednesday informing participants of the decision. The championships were scheduled to be held in Caracas on Friday.
Lin praised the federation for its decision to strip Venezuela of the right to host the competition.
A federation representative was not immediately available for comment.
Taiwan is banned from many international activities because of boycotts from China, but those bans rarely extend to sports events.
China says the self-ruled island is part of its own territory. The two sides split amid civil war in 1949.
