Americans Observe Labor Day Holiday

update

Monday is the Labor Day holiday in the United States.

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, was created by the U.S. labor movement more than 100 years ago as a tribute to the contributions of workers.

In his annual Labor Day message, President Bush said the nation's prosperity was built by the hard work and ingenuity of working men and women.

The Labor Day holiday marks the unofficial end of the summer vacation period in the United States and the beginning of a new academic year for students.

The day is considered a time for recreational activities, such as picnicking with family and friends.
