Rescuers in southern Vietnam are searching for survivors of Wednesday's bridge construction collapse in Vinh Long province.
Officials say crews recovered the bodies of eight construction workers Thursday, bringing the death toll to at least 45. They say about 80 workers are injured. However, local news reports say 64 workers were killed and 180 injured.
Hospital officials say they expect the death toll to rise because some of the injured are not expected to live.
About 250 workers were at the bridge when a 90-meter section collapsed.
The massive span over the Hau River links Vinh Long province to the city of Can Tho. Stretching 2.75 kilometers, it is one of the largest construction projects in Vietnam.
Work on the bridge began in 2004 and is slated to end next year.
