Vietnamese police say at least 52 people have died following the collapse of a bridge under construction in Vinh Long province.

Police say at least 60 people were injured, and several are missing. Officials say about 250 workers and engineers were working on the site when the accident happened Wednesday.

The concrete bridge was being built across the Hau River, in the southern city of Can Tho. Construction began in 2004, and was expected to be completed next year.
