Defending champion Justine Henin of Belgium and 2004 winner Maria Sharapova of Russia have advanced to the finals of the Sony Ericsson Championships in Madrid, Spain.
Henin, the world's No. 1 player, scored a straight-sets win over Serbian Ana Ivanovic, 6-4, 6-4.
Sharapova has spent the better part of the past two months recovering from a lingering shoulder injury. She dispatched compatriot Anna Chakvetadze in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. The win was Sharapova's fourth in four meetings with Chakvetadze.
All-time, Henin owns a 5-2 record against Sharapova, including a straight-sets win over the Russian at last year's championships. The season-ending tournament is being played at the Madrid Arena and offers a top prize of $1 million.
