update

Austria's Stefan Gimpl has won a World Cup Big Air snowboarding event on a specially constructed course at the Knyaz Alexander Batenberg Square in downtown Sofia, Bulgaria.

Gimpl's best score came on his first run with a total of 29 points. His second run scored 19.3 points, but his first run was enough to beat Finland's Janne Korpi, who had 25 points. World championship runner-up Matevz Petek of Slovenia finished third with 21.9 points.

Korpi leads the World Cup Big Air standings with 2,200 points. Gimpl is second with 2,040 points. Korpi also leads the Overall World Cup standings with 3,400 points. Mathieu Bozzetto of France, who did not compete Saturday, is second overall (2,950 points).

This is the first time a World Cup snowboarding event has been held in the Bulgarian capital. Athletes from 14 countries took part on a 31-meter high ramp covered with 600 cubic meters of snow built in the center of town specifically for this event.
