Last month, (May) the unemployment rate in the United States jumped by its highest monthly rate in more than 20 years -- hitting 5.5 percent. Despite the gloomy economic news, tax rebate checks issued by the U.S. government to millions of Americans appear to be having a positive impact. Sales are increasing at some retail stores.
