Hurricane Bertha has weakened as it continues to move northwestward across the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
Bertha now has sustained winds of 169 kilometers per hour, down from 195 kilometers per hour.
The
U.S. National Hurricane Center said as of 11:00 a.m. EDT Tuesday, the
center of the storm was about 1,062 kilometers from the northern Leeward
Islands, and about 1,570 kilometers from Bermuda.
Hurricane
Bertha is expected to continue heading northwest toward Bermuda at
about 16 kilometers per hour, but forecasters say the storm could
change course before it makes landfall.
Bertha is the first hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic season.
