Zimbabwe Civic Group Dismisses Constitutional Process Change as 'Window Dressing'

Zimbabwe's National Constitutional Assembly, a leading civic organization, has dismissed the recent reorganization of the constitutional revision process as “window-dressing” that fails to address its fundamental objections to the formerly parliamentary-led process.

The civic group said changes broadening the oversight committee’s composition to include two eminent members of civil society leaves control in the hands of politicians, especially as the negotiators of the 2008 power-sharing pact were also added to the panel.

National Constitutional Assembly Chairman Lovemore Madhuku told reporter Brenda Moyo of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that only an independent commission will do.
