5 Suspects Arrested after Deadly Saudi Shootout

A Saudi news report says police have arrested five suspected militants in northern Saudi Arabia, after a shootout that killed a policeman and wounded eight others.

The Saudi Press Agency said the clash occurred Tuesday in the northern town of Oneiza, when gunmen opened fire on security forces searching a house. The report says two of those arrested were wanted militants.

It says authorities seized a supply of weapons and ammunition at the scene. Last year, al-Qaida-linked militants began a wave of suicide bombings and killings targeting Western workers and government facilities in the kingdom. Scores of people have been killed.

The Saudi government responded with a series of raids, and has rounded up hundreds of suspects.
