Rain-Delayed Second Cricket Test Between Zimbabwe, West Indies Declared A Draw - 2001-07-31

update

The rain-delayed second cricket test between Zimbabwe and the West Indies has been abandoned and declared a draw, meaning the West Indies has won the series, 1-0.

The West Indies needed to score 348 runs in its second innings, but Ramnaresh Sarwan and Chris Gayle added only 49 runs in the 26.4 overs possible. Zimbabwe needed to take nine more wickets for the victory that would have evened the series.

Zimbabwe had wracked up its highest score of 563 declared in its second innings. A persistent rain washed out seven minutes of the morning session while light drizzle and a cold wind kept the covers on the pitch.

The West Indies won the first test match in Bulawayo by an innings and 176 runs.
