British Open golf champion David Duval of the United States has a one stroke lead after the opening round of the Dunlop Phoenix golf tournament in Mizayaki, Japan.
Duval fired 8 birdies [1 stroke under par for the hole] and 2 bogeys [1 stroke over par for the hole] to go to a 6 under par 65, on the Phoenix Country Club course.
Japan's Hirofumi Miyase is in second place after shooting a 66. Americans Ed Fryatt and Dean Wilson are tied for third place at 67. Duval bogeyed the par 4 second hole, but then shot 7 birdies in 10 holes. He missed the green on the 16th hole and settled for a bogey, but birdied the par 5 18th hole.
