The elderly population of the United States is growing at an unprecedented rate. According to the latest census figures, there are more than 32 million Americans aged 65 or older.
Some officials fear there won't be enough medical caregivers or nursing homes for them.
So researchers are desigining technologically-advanced houses that could help older people take better care of themselves.
