The southern US city of Birmingham, Alabama, has been chosen as the site for the US men's Olympic Marathon trials on February 7, 2004.
Birmingham topped competing bids from New York City, Saint Louis, Missouri, and Washington, DC. Birmingham has never hosted Olympic trials before, and USA Track and Field president Bill Roe said he was pleased Birmingham was chosen.
The Alabama Sports Foundation and Birmingham Marathon, Incorporated, led the bid for the trials. The Foundation will provide $350,000 in prize money and development funds for the trials and men's running in the United States.
