Austrian Men Win Biathlon Team Race - 2001-12-16

The Austrian men's biathlon team has won a World Cup 4-by-7.5 kilometer relay race in (Pokljuka) Slovenia.

Daniel Mesotitsch, Wolfgang Perner, Christoph Sumann and Ludwig Gredler finished in one hour, 23 minutes, 55-point-seven seconds. Belarus finished second, nine-point-four seconds back. Norway placed third.

The German team did not finish the race after its final competitor, Marco Morgenstern, collapsed on the course from exhaustion.

The event finishes Sunday with pursuit races for men and women. Biathlon combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting from a variety of positions. A miss in the shooting portion results in penalty laps on the cross-country course.
