Verplank, Perry Share Lead at Mercedes Golf Championships

American golfers Scott Verplank and Kenny Perry survived strong, gusty winds in Hawaii to share first place heading into Sunday's final round of the season-opening Mercedes Championships.

Verplank's round of three-under-par 70 on Saturday included an eagle on the par-five 18th hole at Kapalua on Hawaii's big island.

The leading three-round score of 13-under-par (206) is one better than Americans Chris DiMarco and David Toms. Tiger Woods is in 16th place after shooting his second straight 74.

DiMarco shared best round honors with Spain's Sergio Garcia, who surged into a tie for sixth place with a 68.
