In the National Football League, the Minnesota Vikings have hired Mike Tice as their new head coach, replacing Dennis Green who was bought out of his contract last week.
Tice led the Vikings in their final game Monday night, a 19-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Minnesota finished the regular season with only five wins and 11 losses.
The team's poor performance led to Green's ouster by the team's owner, Red McCombs. This past season was the worst in Green's 10-year career with Minnesota.
Tice, a University of Maryland graduate, played for the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Redskins. He was on the Vikings team for two seasons and served as the team's offensive line coach until being named as interim coach last week.
