India's cricket team has scored a 22-run comeback win over England in the first of six one-day international matches in Calcutta, India.

India won the toss and reached 281 for 8 in its 50 overs, with Dinesh Mongia reaching 71 runs and Sourav Ganguly adding another 42.

Marcus Trescothick gave the English a good start, scoring 121 runs, but the lower order collapsed and the tourists finished with 259 all out in 44 overs. England lost six wickets for only 35 runs. Ajit Agarkar of India finished with three wickets for 50 runs.

Meanwhile, New Zealand's cricket team has defeated South Africa by four wickets in a triangular series limited overs match in Brisbane, Australia.

South Africa batted first and finished with 241 all out. Jacques Kallis led South Africa with 65 runs while Mark Boucher added 51. Shane Bond of New Zealand took four South African wickets while allowing 37 runs.

New Zealand then scored 244 for six in 49.1 overs with Chris Cairns leading the Kiwis with 102 not out. New Zealand now leads the three-nation tournament, which includes Australia, with 12 points from four matches. South Africa takes on Australia Sunday in Brisbane.
