South Africa's ruling party endorses<br> Zimbabwe election results. - 2002-03-14

South Africa’s ruling party – the ANC – says the presidential elections in Zimbabwe were “relatively free and fair.” It says the people of Zimbabwe have spoken and the elections have shown how they value the democratic process.

The ANC says it is calling on Zimbabweans "to focus on the fundamental task of reconstructing and developing their country to ensure a better life for all the people."

Smuts Ngonyama is the chief spokesman for the ANC. From Johannesburg, he spoke to English to Africa reporter Joe De Capua about the elections.
