Richard Feachem, professor of international health in the the University of California system, has been named to head the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
He was appointed in April 1999 to be the founding Director of the Institute for Global Health, a joint initiative of the University of California, San Francisco and the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Feachem, who is 55, is a former senior official in the World Bank's health program. He was also the dean of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
