Estonia Hosts Eurovision Song Contest - 2002-05-25

Acts ranging from a trio of Slovenian transvestites to a Russian rock band compete Saturday in the 47th annual Eurovision Song Contest in Estonia.

The competition in the capital, Tallinn, brings together pop (popular) music acts from 24 countries competing for votes from up to 300-million television viewers across Europe.

The small Baltic nation won the right to host this year's show after its entry (Dave Benton and Tanel Padar) was the surprise winner of last year's contest in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Previous contestants in the Eurovision contest include the famed Swedish quartet ABBA, Canadian superstar Celine Dion and international recording artist Julio Iglesias of Spain.
