Bush Condemns Israel Suicide Bomb Attack - 2002-08-04

U.S. President George W. Bush says he was distressed to hear about the bombing. He says the world must band together to "stop these terrorist killers."

Mr. Bush got the news from Israel while vacationing at his parents' home in Kennebunkport, Maine. He told reporters that a few killers want to stop the peace process. Pointing his finger for emphasis, he vowed they will not succeed.

The president said for the sake of humanity, for the sake of the Palestinians who suffer and the Israelis who are under attack, these acts of terror must stop. He said people who yearn for peace, must bring terrorism to an end.

The latest suicide bombing ripped apart a bus crammed with rush hour passengers, including a number of soldiers returning to duty after a weekend off.

A few hours later three more people died in a gunbattle outside the walls of Jerusalem's old city.
