Kuwait's Airport Opens After Fire Forced Closure - 2002-08-17

update

Kuwait's International Airport has reopened hours after a fire forced its closure.

The Kuwait News Agency reported the fire, blamed on an electrical short circuit, was quickly brought under control Saturday. The blaze started on the ground floor and spread to other areas, forcing the airport to be evacuated.

The news agency said there were no injuries either to passengers or to airport employees. The fire caused some flights to be diverted to other airports in the region.

Some passengers at the Kuwait airport had to lug their suitcases long distances because cars were halted while firemen fought the blaze
