Flood control efforts are holding in China as the swollen waters of Dongting lake recede. But more rain is expected and some 10 million people remain under threat.
The waters of Dongting lake, China's second largest fresh water lake, began to recede Sunday.
There were no major breaches of the dikes and other water control measures put in place after deadly floods killed some 4,000 people in 1998.
More than one million civilians and soldiers have been deployed to China's populous central Hunan Province to prevent flooding near Dongting Lake and the four rivers that feed it.
However cresting water is traveling down the Yangtze River and is expected to hit the City of Wuhan Monday morning. The city of seven million people is now under a state of emergency.
So far this year, China's summer floods have killed more than 900 people.
