Golf: Torrance Pulls Out of German Masters Tournament - 2002-09-12

Scottish golfer Sam Torrance has pulled out of the German Masters tournament in Cologne after a recurrence of a back injury. The European Ryder Cup golf captain withdrew Thursday morning, after practicing before the first round of the tournament. Torrance will be missing his second straight event. He has not played since the B-M-W Open two weeks ago, where he withdrew with the same injury. Some of those competing at the tournament include PGA champion Rich Beem, British Open winner Ernie Els and nine of Torrance's Ryder Cup players. The European team will face the United States at The Belfry in England starting September 27.
