Photo Gallery: America Remembers September 11 Victims


America remembered the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with somber ceremonies, worship services and candlelight vigils.

More than 2,800 people died at the World Trade Center when two hijacked planes destroyed its two towers. At the Pentagon, more than 180 people were killed, while in Pennsylvania more than 40 people died.

The day of commemorations began with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., in honor of the victims of the first plane to hit the World Trade Center in New York.
