Nigerian Plan To Help HIV Infected Women - 2002-10-10

update

The World Health Organization, W -H -O, says the HIV infection rate among African women is going up. According to a recent report, more than thirty-three million Africans are living with the disease -- almost half of them women. They also make up almost half of the new infections since 1999.

The W -H-O says African governments should pay more attention to the problem. Nigerian health authorities say they're doing just that - they're launching a new initiative targeted at women. Dr. Isabelle de zoysa is director of HIV/ AIDS prevention department of the W-H-O. English to Africa reporter Chinedu Offor asked her what she thinks of the new plan.
