Bush Condemns Latest Israel Bombing - 2003-01-05

U.S. President George W. Bush has condemned the latest suicide bombings in Israel. Two suicide bombers killed at least twenty people and injured dozens more Sunday in central Tel Aviv.

White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said the attackers want to derail the peace process, but she stressed that the president will not be deterred. Echoing statements made by the Bush administration after similar attacks in the past, she told reporters that innocent people have a right to live in safety.

Ms. Buchan said President Bush got the tragic news from Israel Sunday while traveling back to Washington from his Texas ranch. She said White House National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice passed along the information.

The twin bombings occurred in a crowded area of central Tel Aviv. Israeli police say two suicide bombers set off the explosions near the city's old bus terminal.
