Will Nigeria's Ibos Choose A Consensus Presidential Candidate - 2003-02-18

The umbrella body of the Ibo speaking people in southeastern Nigeria is facing a dilemma on the choice of a presidential candidate for the April general election. The Ohaneze Ndigbo says it will pick a consensus candidate to represent the Ibos. However, some Ibo politicians are expressing mixed reaction to the move. Some say the move is too late, since four political parties have already chosen Ibo candidates and it would be unfair for some to give up their candidacies. Others call it a good move that will unite the Ibo community. English to Africa reporter Tony Tamuno has details from Port Harcourt. Click the above links to download or listen to report.
