Kenya Loses To India In Cricket World Cup Semifinals - 2003-03-20

Kenya's surprising run at the Cricket World Cup came to an end Thursday when the African side lost by 91 runs to India in a day-night semifinal match played in Durban, South Africa.

Team captain Saurav Ganguly led the way for the Indians with an unbeaten 111. He equaled the World Cup record of four centuries. Teammate Sachin Tendulkar added 83 runs for the Indians, who will meet defending champion Australia in Sunday's final in Johannesburg.

With a victory target of 271, Kenya never threatened and eventually fell with a total of 179. The Kenyans captured the imaginations of cricket fans across Africa and around the world in becoming the first non-test side to reach the World Cup semifinals.
