MDC Candidates Clinch Two Crucial Parliament Seats - 2003-03-31


The opposition Movement for Democratic Change or MDC has won two crucial by-elections in Harare, despite allegation of violence and intimidation by ruling party supporters leading up to the weekend polls.

The opposition Movement for Democratic Change has retained its two seats in crucial elections in two suburbs of the capital held over the weekend.

Results announced by Registrar Generals office, the MDC’s candidate in Kuwadzana, Nelson Chamisa, polled 12,548 votes while the ruling Zanu PF's candidate David Mutasa polled 5,002 votes.

In the Highfield constituency, MDC's Pearson Tachivayi Mungofa led ZANU-PF candidate Joseph Chinotimba with 8,759 to 4,844 votes.
