POW Lynch Rescued in 'Matter of Minutes' - 2003-04-02

update

Coalition forces in Iraq have freed an American soldier who was taken prisoner in an ambush by Iraqi forces last week.

Central Command spokesman Captain Frank Thorp says U.S. special forces troops rescued Private Jessica Lynch from a hospital near Nasiriyah around midnight Wednesday.

"They very quickly got done what they were trying to get done and left in a matter of minutes,"

Captain Thorp said the American troops met some resistance but sustained no casualties.

Private Lynch was injured when her supply convoy was ambushed 10 days, ago during the early days of the war. She is now recovering in a coalition medical facility.

Special forces also reportedly retrieved the remains of 11 bodies at the hospital. The spokesman says these are being examined to determine if they are coalition troops.
