Guatemalan authorities say a mudslide has buried several homes in the eastern province of San Marcos, leaving at least seven people dead and 20 others missing.
Officials say the trouble happened at around dawn Wednesday as a mountain towering over the village of Chichicaste collapsed.
Authorities declared a state of emergency for the region as rescue workers searched for victims. Their efforts were hampered by the threat of more mudslides.
Authorities say that because of flooding several months ago, the region had been declared a high-risk area.
