Africa Leaders Meet with Mugabe and Opposition Leaders - 2003-05-05

A delegation of three African leaders met with President Mugabe and MDC leaders today in Harare seeking an end to the nation’s political crisis. The delegation of presidents was lead by South Africa’s Thabo Mbeki and included Olusegon Obasanjo of Nigeria and Malawi’s Bakili Muluzi.

Meanwhile, the South African Foreign Affairs Spokesman, Ronnie Mammoepa, says today’s talks were not focusing on an exit plan for President Mugabe, as has been widely reported. Mr. Mammoepa told Studio Seven’s Carole Gombakomba that the region is anxious to see the crisis in Zimbabwe resolved.
