Soccer: Inter Milan, AC Milan Battle to Draw - 2003-05-08

Italian football (soccer) clubs Inter Milan and AC Milan have battled to a scoreless draw in the opening leg of their Champions League semi-final at San Siro stadium in Milan.

Inter withstood steady pressure from AC Milan in Wednesday's second half to hold on for the scoreless draw. AC Milan controlled the ball for long periods, but was unable to turn its supremacy into goals in front of a sold-out crowd of 80,000.

AC Milan, which will be the away team in the second leg on Tuesday, can advance to the final on away goals while playing in its own stadium. Both AC Milan and Inter play their home matches at San Siro.

The winner will take on either Juventus of Italy or defending champion Real Madrid of Spain in the final, which is set for May 26 at Old Trafford in Manchester, England. Madrid defeated Juventus 2-1 in their opening leg match in Madrid Tuesday. The second leg is set for next Wednesday in Turin.
