NBA: Dallas Hangs On with Win Over Spurs - 2003-05-28

Facing elimination, the Dallas Mavericks overcame a 19-point deficit to stay alive in their National Basketball Association Western Conference Finals series against the San Antonio Spurs.

Michael Finley scored 31 points and Nick Van Exel added 21 as Dallas stunned San Antonio Tuesday, 103-91, in Game Five of the best-of-seven series.

Dallas outscored San Antonio 29-10 in the fourth quarter as the Spurs missed 14 of 17 shots, including eight in a row.

Dallas won without German-born All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki, who missed his second straight game with a knee injury.

San Antonio leads the series three games to two. Game Six is Thursday in Dallas. The winner will meet the Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Nets in the best-of-seven league final.
