Protesters in Poland have hurled objects and shouted anti-abortion slurs at a shipborne Dutch clinic as it arrived in a Polish port.
The ship carrying members of the Women on Waves group entered the Baltic port of Wladyslawowo Sunday. Demonstrators lined the pier and threw red paint, waved Polish flags and shouted "murderers" at the vessel.
Women on Waves uses the vessel to provide counseling and the RU-486 abortion pill to pregnant women in countries with strict abortion laws.
Staunchly Roman Catholic Poland has some of Europe's strictest abortion laws. Polish law allows abortion only in certain cases, including if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest or the fetus is severely malformed.
