A Bosnian Serb indicted by the Hague tribunal on genocide and other war crimes charges has surrendered to police in Serbia.
Interior Ministry officials in Belgrade say Zeljko Meakic surrendered to Serbian police Monday. They did not elaborate, but said authorities will extradite the suspect to The Hague.
The tribunal indicted Mr. Meakic for his role as a commander at the notorious Serb-run Omarska camp near Prijedor in northwestern Bosnia-Herzegovina early in the Balkan conflict of the 1990s. Television pictures of half-naked and starved Muslim and Croat prisoners at the camp prompted calls for international intervention against Serb ethnic cleansing in Bosnia.
