Prince Charles's Annual Income Increases to More than $16 Million

Official British government figures show that the income of Prince Charles has increased by 27 percent last year to more than $16 million.

Officials attribute wise business and property investments to the $1.8 million rise in the prince's income.

Unlike his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, the Prince does not receive an official allowance from taxpayers. He receives his income from the investments and estates of his Duchy of Cornwall.

The published figures detail the costs of everything from the prince's utility bills to office stationery. He has about 90 full-time official employees and a private staff of 17, whom he pays out of his own pocket.

The report shows the prince spent about 57 percent of his income, a little more than $9 million funding his own official duties and charity activities. Close to $1.5 million was spent on entertaining about 11,000 official guests.
