A bomb blast killed a U.S. soldier Friday afternoon, as he drove toward the Iraqi town of Falujah.
Military officials say an improvised remote-detonation bomb exploded at a traffic circle just west of Falujah, sending a military vehicle careening off the road and killing one soldier inside.
The name of the soldier has not been released, but he has been identified as a member of a unit of the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Division, based in the town.
No other fatalities or injuries have been reported from the incident. An investigation is under way.
An Army spokesman said the bomb left a half-meter crater in the road.
Earlier in the day, a similar explosive device was discovered just outside Baghdad on the road leading to the airport, and was safely defused.
