Stronger Demand Boosts Orders for US Manufactured Goods - 2003-08-04

Demand for U.S. manufactured goods rose in June to its highest rate in three months, boosted by stronger demand for cars, machinery and other durable goods.

The Commerce Department said factory orders increased by a more than expected 1.7 percent in June. Bookings for goods meant to last at least three years led the gain.

The report is the latest sign of improvement in the struggling manufacturing sector.
